Silver Bar Knife
Silver-handled bar knife which can be used to slice fruit and open bottles. It is probably the only one of its kind available from stock globally today. It has a functional stainless steel blade which is made in Sheffield for quality and reliability. It is mounted on a solid, hallmarked, sterling silver rod handle. The handle has a double line motif which is the signature design theme of the JA Campbell, contemporary, Appetite collection. The silver handle ensures it always has an appreciating intrinsic value and can be handed down to future generations. Higher valued gold versions can also be made.
This silver-handled bar knife is essential for the man who has everything, including his own cocktail bar. It is ideal to slice lemons for the G & T or fruit for the jug of Pimms. The double prong helps to transport the fruit into the jug or glass. An additional feature of this silver-handled bar knife is the bottle opener on the back which dispenses with the need to search for another item.
This bar knife would make an ideal sterling silver men's gift, sterling silver wedding present or a special treat for yourself. As the sterling silver handle of the knife can be engraved, it is also very suitable for a corporate or incentive gift. If the occasion is a golden wedding, then the handle can be gold plated or even made in gold.
For those interested in our manufacturing process, the silver handle starts life as pure silver and pure copper grain contained in a hopper and dropping into a continuous casting machine when molten. A solid bar is pulled out of the bottom at a controlled rate as it cools. It is then drawn down through dies which reduce the diameter to its final size. It is then cut into lengths, the double decorative signature lines turned in on a lathe and one end drilled to accept the tang of the steel handle. At this stage, the handles are punched with the makers mark, JAC in a triangle, the initials of John Campbell. They are then sent to the London Assay Office for testing. Providing a positive result is received from the laboratory, the remaining hallmarks are then punched into the surface of the silver. This hallmarking process is one of the oldest forms of international consumer protection, having been instigated in the 1400s.
Upon return to the silversmith's studio, the handle is soldered onto the blade. The now together unit is polished using 4 different compounds until all the blemishes are removed and the bar knife is perfect and finished. Finally it is packed into the luxury JA Campbell presentation box. All JA Campbell products are made up to a standard, not down to a price.
As with most things in life your silver will need occasional cleaning. This does not need to be a chore and can be quite therapeutic. It may need as little as a quick wash up, a 'buff up' with a clean yellow duster to remove light tarnish and then only the occasional polish using silver cleaner such as Silvo.
