Silver and Crystal Caviar Server with a handmade hallmarked sterling silver base, lid and cradle with a beautiful, mouth-blown, English crystal bowl.
Caviar has a unique flavour and needs to be served on ice. The sterling silver server is part of the JA Campbell contemporary 'Appetite' collection. This collection has many other luxury tableware items that will complement any occasion. 'To delight a customer' is something Designer John Campbell aims to do with every item that leaves his workshop.
Enjoying caviar with friends can be a special piece of theatre to be remembered and it is certain to impress your friends and guests. It is a delicacy that demands stunning presentation. This set serves the purpose and also ensures the caviar is kept in good condition. In the highest quality caviar, each egg retains 100% of its oil content, giving the caviar a delicious flavour that is difficult to compare.
The method of manufacture is described below by maker John Campbell. The large ice bowl and the bowl that contains the caviar are blown for us by Dartington Crystal. The silver base, caviar cover and knob are made by the "spinning" method. This is a process for making round, hollow objects from sheet metal in relatively small amounts. In this case, the base is spun in 2 components lapped together at the bottom. The cover is in 3 components; 2 form the knob, again lapped together and then soldered to the cover. Spinning involves a flat metal disc, (in this case silver) spun or wrapped around a preformed shape on a lathe using a polished steel burnisher fixed to a long wooden handle. The skill of the silversmith is to prevent the disc from buckling as it comes off the flat and takes on a hollow form.
The caviar bowl support frame is made from silver wire which is cut, bent and soldered together. Three silver balls are then soldered to the strut ends to help keep the frame central. At this stage in the making, the item is punched with the maker's mark, JAC in a triangle, the initials of John Campbell. It is then sent to the London Assay Office for testing of each and every component. Only if all the components prove to be better than 92.5% pure silver are the remaining hallmarks punched into the surface while being supported on a steel stake. The English hallmarking system is one of the oldest and best forms of consumer protection and dates back to the 1400s. Upon return to the silversmith's workshop, the silver is polished using 4 grades of polishing compound and finally fitted together. Lastly, the caviar set is packed into the well-known JA Campbell luxury presentation boxes.
The silver & crystal caviar servers are available in 2 sizes, suitable for a couple or a group. The large server holds 200 to 250grams of caviar and the small server holds 50 to 75grams. Spoil yourself! Either of these silver & crystal caviar servers would make an ideal silver wedding present or possibly a silver corporate gift. Silver has become a subtle status symbol in recent years. Now could be the time to buy as an heirloom to hand down to future generations.
In the unlikely event of damage, JA Campbell offer a full repair/replacement service. You can be assured that all our products are made up to a standard, not down to a price.
