A sterling silver drip ring made from heavy gauge sterling silver. The ring is cut to a strip, bent to a ring and soldered. The seam is then dressed and the ring swaged using a 'jenny' to squeeze the ribbed profile which both stiffens and hardens the ring and also forms the groove into which the felt will be finally fitted. The silver drip ring then goes to the London Assay office for analysis, testing and hallmarking. When it arrives back in the Brentwood workshop it is polished using 3 grades of polishing compound, the last being jewelers rouge which imparts the highly reflective shine that is associated with sterling silver.

The silver drip ring is sometimes known as a wine collar and it fits snuggly around the neck of a wine bottle. Designs for this accessory date back well over 100 years. In 1872 a patent was issued to W R Miller for a drip cup, which formed a circular gutter that would catch the drips.
