Silver Open Salt Server & Spoon
This hall marked sterling silver open salt bowl with matching sterling silver spoon (which will double as open mustard) is part of the J A Campbell contemporary 'Appetite' collection. Both the inside of the bowl and the entire bowl of the spoon are gold plated to prevent corrosion and staining.
An impressive and useful addition to the 'Appetite' collection including pepper mills and general tableware, these items will enhance the ambiance of your home entertaining experience, making great talking points.
Whether the occasion is a lunch snack of delicious sandwiches or an elaborate evening dinner, this sterling silver open salt bowl and matching spoon is an essential part of condiment serving. Easy to wash and clean it will always look good and an occasional polish will keep this piece looking pristine.
The body is made using the spinning methods and the spoon by the lost wax cast method.
One of the final processes is that the items are then taken to the London Assay Office housed in Goldsmiths hall in London where each component is tested (assayed) and providing the metal is better than 925 parts out of 1000 (no minute tolerance allowed) then the remaining hall marks are punched into the surface. This is one of the earliest forms of consumer protection and was started in the 1400's, as the silversmith has no influence on the hall marking process.
Upon return to the silversmith's workshop the slight dent from the punching of the hallmarks is removed by 'planishing' with a small hammer. This item is now polished using 4 compounds ending with jeweler's rouge which imparts the high luster for which silver is well known. Finally it is ultra sonically cleaned, wrapped and boxed.
You can spoil yourself and buy one for your own use or a special present for someone close. It is also very suitable as a silver wedding present, a silver birthday present, a corporate gift or incentive gift. It can even be made in gold for the very special golden wedding present.
As with most J A Campbell products this item is suitable for engraving to personalize as a gift. The design features and quality in every item made by craftsmen at J A Campbell are unique.
Common salt has been used for dietary purposes as well as a preservative for generations. It has been a medium of exchange and the source of tax revenue since ancient times. Indeed the English word 'salary' is a derivative of the word salt. Sea salt production is now almost entirely an industry of Mediterranean and other warm dry climates, an exception being Malden Sea Salt who operate in Essex, England.
In the unlikely event of damage JA Campbell provide a repair service. You can be assured that all J A Campbell products are made up to a standard not down to a price. Nothing leaves the Brentwood workshop until Master Silversmith John Campbell is completely satisfied.
This open salt bowl and matching spoon is a pleasure to use today and a great investment to be handed down to future generations.
As with most things in life your silver will need occasional cleaning, this does not need to be a chore and can be quite therapeutic. From as little as the wash up of an eating utensil to the occasional buff up to remove light tarnish, and an occasional polish using silver cleaner such as Silvo.
You can be assured that all
JA Campbell products are made up to a standard and not down to a price.
