An important accessory to the sterling silver reed wine funnel, this optional tray completes the item for a piece of entertaining theatre and will really impress your friends, family or colleagues.

A useful prop for the wine funnel itself which is essentially for decanting, aerating and filtering good wine. Other complementary products to consider are decanters, claret jugs, goblets, corkscrews and candlesticks to name but a few.

For those who are interested in how we make this item, it consists of one component made from a thick gauge sterling silver blank and is made by the spinning method (vorshearen in German). This is an old and rather primitive method of making round hollow objects in relatively small quantities on a spinning lathe, which is rather like a heavy duty wood turning lathe. The silver is coaxed/forced over a preformed chuck using a polished steel spinning tool or burnisher. After this first operation the tray is reversed and held in a hollow chuck and the 3 decorative lines are turned/cut into the edge.

The tray is then punched with the makers mark, in this case JAC in a triangle, which are the initials of John Campbell, the founder and the registered punch with the assay offices. Next the tray is sent to the London Assay office for hallmarking where a small scraping is taken from each and every component and tested (assayed). Only if the laboratory test results prove plus 925 result are the remaining hallmarks applied. Upon return to the workshop the marks are checked and 'set' and the polishing process begins.This uses 4 grades of polishing compound until perfectly bright. The top inside base is then lightly sandblasted to give a user friendly finish, ultrasonically cleaned before being boxed and packed.
