Silver Tooth Fairy Box
A new mum was asked "Are you pleased with your new arrival"? Pleased??? I am "over the moon" she exclaimed. It was on this basis that the products were designed and the collection given its name.
This concise range of sterling silver baby gifts is interesting in that the use of the items develops as your baby grows. This is certain to attract comment from your friends and family.
Losing a tooth could be a bit upsetting for a young child but if that tooth is to be put into a sterling silver tooth fairy box......? Why not have the sterling silver tooth fairy box in the child's bedroom and talk about it well in advance? Have your child hold it. Look at the amusing moon and stars design. Talk about it as part of growing up. In later life, the sterling silver tooth fairy box could become a storage box for other small treasures, rings, earrings, and cuff links - it is so versatile. This entire sterling silver collection is handmade from hallmarked sterling silver in England in our Brentwood workshop - made up to a standard, not down to a price.
For people interested in how we make this item, a brief description follows: the side walls of the box are made from a thick walled, seamless tube produced for us by Cookson Precious Metals using the continuous casting method. It is drawn down to the final size through a series of dies. The tube is then cut to individual box size length and has the cover bezel turned on the top edge using a lathe. A disc is then soldered on to the body base using silver solder. The body is now complete.
Next the cover is made using the "spinning" method. This is an ancient method of producing round hollow objects in relatively small quantities using a lathe. Basically, a silver disc is wrapped around a pre-formed shape known as a "chuck" using a polished steel burnisher. This takes place while the disc and chuck are spinning. The cover is now made.
Next the manufacturing process is paused while the box takes a trip to the London Assay Office where each component is scraped and each scraping then tested. Providing a positive result is received from the Assay Office lab, the hallmarks are burned into the surface using a laser. Upon return to the silversmith's workshop, the box is polished using 4 grades of polishing compound and then the moon and stars images sandblasted onto the surface. Lastly the box is polished again, cleaned and packed into the luxury, green satin-lined presentation boxes.

The gift was great - Tooth Fairy Box- everything was fine thank you. I have told my daughter in law that is not a 'museum piece' or a 'toy' but there to be used. All the best for 2012. Janet M
