Silver Tray
This handmade hall marked sterling silver salver or tray is ideal to hold the 'Appetite' Tea or Coffee set. This silver salver has a multitude of uses and even looks good when simply on display.
In the evening, as the host, use this silver salver to proudly present your guests with a cocktail or a glass of champagne. The surface of this salver is treated with a light satin finish effect. This finish is quite user friendly as it reduces the risk of scratch marks during daily use.
When entertaining friends and family using sterling silver shows you care about the finer things in life. The soft glow of candlelight on silver gives an ambiance that nothing else can quite match.
For anyone interested in the traditional method of producing this tray Master Silversmith John Campbell describes how he makes this item. The 2 components are made by the spinning method. This is where hollow round objects are made on a spinning lathe by forcing flat silver blanks over a pre formed brass or steel chuck. This is a highly skilled process dating back many generations to possibly Roman times. The Milden Hall treasure in the British Museum contains some large round dishes bearing the telltale rings on their backs. This process is most suitable for small production runs of between 1 and 100. Production batches larger than this would be better made by the pressing method. After spinning the 2 components the next process is to join the 2 by lapping them together. This rolls the edge of the top component over the bottom, locking them together.
The simple elegant style lends itself to engraving with a message of your choice, dates, names, family crest or logo, even an engraving of your favourite sport, if used for a sports trophy or gift.
Silver has become a very collectable commodity over the years and to be able to hand it down from generation to generation is something to be considered, for its beauty and the joy of using silver and also as an investment for the future.
In the unlikely event of damage JA Campbell provide a repair service. You can be assured that all J A Campbell products are made up to a standard not down to a price. Nothing leaves the Brentwood workshop until Master Silversmith John Campbell is completely satisfied.
As with most things in life your silver will need occasional cleaning, this does not need to be a chore and can be quite therapeutic. From as little as the wash up of an eating utensil to the occasional buff up to remove light tarnish, and an occasional polish using silver cleaner such as Silvo.
