Silver Wine Bottle Stopper
This sterling silver and cork wine bottle stopper is handmade and one of the lower cost items that complements both the 'Classic' and 'Appetite' collections from JA Campbell Silversmiths.
An important accessory especially when entertaining al fresco, to keep out unwanted visitors from your wine. It will show that you are knowledgeable and care about the finer details associated with home entertaining wherever you may be, house, yacht or plane. For corking a bottle that is not finished or keeping out the air, this is a useful, high quality wine bottle stopper for those passionate about wine.
It is made from 3 main components; the domed part, the lower body component and the main cork. The silver domed cap is spun from a blank onto a brass spinning chuck. The lower component is also spun onto a brass pre plug chuck. It is then annealed (made red hot) to soften and then spun onto a brass plug chuck. Once the brass plug has been freed from its encapsulation, the open end is rolled round using a spinning tool called a burnisher to the exact size to fit the cork. The top and bottom components are then lapped together to make one unit. The silversmith then punches the makers mark symbol, in this case John Campbell's initials JAC in a triangle, supporting the item on a tool or stake during punching. The items are then batched together and taken to the London Assay Office housed in Goldsmiths Hall where all the components are tested. Providing they are better than 925 parts per 1000, then the remaining hallmarks are applied. This is one of the earliest forms of consumer protection and is as good today as it was 600 years ago when it was first introduced.
At one point in hallmarking history a tax was levied based on the weight of an item. Canny silversmiths would get around this by submitting a small article for hallmarking and then soldering this into the base of a larger heavier article.
You can however spoil yourself today and buy one for your own use or a special present for someone close. It is also very suitable as a silver wedding present, a birthday present, a corporate gift or incentive gift. It can even be made in gold for the very special golden wedding present, or indeed other precious metals can be used, for example, platinum if your budget is even higher.

As with most things in life, your silver will need occasional cleaning. This does not have to be a chore and can be quite therapeutic. It needs as little as a wash up plus a buff up with a clean soft yellow duster to remove light tarnish and an occasional polish using silver cleaner such as Silvo.
You can be assured that all
