Sterling Silver Vase 4 inches high

Small Sterling Silver specimen Vase, hallmarked and handmade by JA Campbell, England in the Art Deco style.

It is 4” tall (10 cm) and ideal to display a specimen rose or small arrangement.

Whilst being petite it is also elegant and highly suitable for displaying a single bloom. This vase would sit proudly on top of a tiered or a single Wedding cake.

It would be great for special occasions, small and private or large and more formal. Weddings, silver weddings, Birthdays, Christenings and Bar mitzvahs.

Suitable for your own use or as a gift, this elegant vase can also be made from Gold. (18 carat and above is most suitable). This vase is ideal for engraving with an inscription, crest, coat of arms, logo or name of a ship.

This is the smallest of a group of three vases, and all are reproductions from the 1930’s in the Art Deco style.

JA Campbell provides a full repair and refurbishment service should it ever become necessary. Everything that is made by JA Campbell is up to a very exacting standard rather than down to the lowest price. Each and every piece is inspected by founder and Master Silversmith John Campbell before dispatch.

For those interested in how we make this vase a brief description follows:

This vase is a relatively simple piece to make in silversmithing terms, in that it is made with only three components with are soldered together (four if you include the skills of the Silvermith)

The centre part is an arc shape cut from a silver sheet and bent around a tapered mandrill to form a cone. Soft iron wire is wound around the taper to pull the straight cut edges tightly together.

Flux is then added to the joint and the cone is heated up to red hot and then allowed to cool. After cooling, the wires are removed, the taper reheated to red hot and silver solder applied to the joint. After a further cooling the taper is pickled in hot dilute sulphuric acid, rinsed and dried. The solder seam is then inspected and filed smooth.

Next comes the spinning process. The cone (still not perfectly round) is pushed onto a tapered spindle on the lathe and planished until perfectly round. The top and bottom edges are both trimmed true and to height. The top and bottom spinning’s are the next to be spun; there are about four operations in each of these units. They are then soldered on to the top and bottom of the cone. Silversmithing now complete.

Next off to the London Assay Office where all three components are tested and the hallmark applied providing the tests prove positive. The vase is then returned to the workshop where it is polished by Colin and his team using three grades of compound until perfect and bright.

Lastly it is ultrasonically cleaned and packed into its presentation box ready for dispatch.

Enjoy now and pass on to a future generation.
