Why decant wine? That is a good question. Today most wine are routinely filtered and fined to a reasonably high quality whilst in yesteryear that was not always the case. This led to the development of the decanter or jug as we know it today to assist in removing the unsightly sediment before it reaches the table. Most wine benefits from being decanted as it alters the wine, smoothing its slightly tannic structure and allowing the complex aromas to be released
The name Claret is derived from the French word ‘clairet' meaning pale, and it describes a red Bordeaux wine which originally was similar in colour to the modern ‘rose'
It is the ideal wine to serve from any one of the silver and claret jugs in this section
