Silver Wine Taster - Sterling Silver Wine Taster

The use of the wine taster also referred to as a taste-vin was to aid the vintner in sampling the wine which he was proposing to purchase.

For this purpose it was necessary to have a small shallow bowl which would show the clear colour of the wine.

Hand made hallmarked sterling silver bowl with domed centre.

Louis XVI style, c.1760. The original can be found in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
